Eastern Region Indoor Track & Field Championships

Senior Lerice Bynum took a bronze medal in the high jump in Friday's Eastern Region meet, finishing 3rd with a personal-record 5' 2" clearance.  This advances her to next weekend's AAA State Championship meet at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

The boys 4x800m relay team of Myles Spivey, Darius Williams, Desmond Fogg, and Javon Walker took 4th place on Friday night, running a season-best 8:20.03. 

Woodside 54, Warwick Girls 47

Despite leading by 3 with a quarter remaining, the Lady Raiders (21-4) could not hold on to defeat Woodside and win their first PD tournament title in 27 years. LaQuanda Younger scored 24 and Doneisha Eley added 10 points on the night.  Next up is a Monday night game at Phoebus at 6pm against Grassfield, the number 3 seed from the Southeastern District.

Warwick Girls 66, Hampton 60

The Lady Raiders played their way into Friday night's Peninsula District tournament final by defeating Hampton 66-60 behind 40 points from LaQuanda Younger.  Warwick trailed by 1 at half and by 2 with one quarter remaining, but fought back to pull out the win and move to 21-3 on the year.

Q scored 105 points in her 3 games against the Crabbers this year.  She now has 1400 points in her 70 high school games and 485 points on the year.

The Lady Raiders will play Woodside in Friday night's final at Woodside at 5:30pm.  No matter the result, Warwick will be the 2nd seed from the PD in the Eastern Region tournament.

Bethel 58, Warwick Boys 47

Breven Lyons scored 18 in his final high school game and the Raiders played with a ton of heart in a 58-47 loss to Bethel.  Warwick ends the season with an 8-15 record.  Congrats and good luck to seniors Devon Asbury, LJ Carney, Melvin Hazleton, Breven Lyons, Jelani Saunders, Doryan Soto, Donnell Staton, and Daniel Wray!

Warwick Girls 62, Denbigh 53

LaQuanda Younger scored 20 and Doneisha Eley added 15 as the Lady Raiders defeated 7th-seeded Denbigh 62-53 on Monday night at Warwick.  The Lady Raiders (20-3) clinched an Eastern Region berth and play Hampton on Wednesday night at 5:30 at Woodside for a spot in the finals.  Wednesday's game should be a great one.  Warwick split the regular season games with the Crabbers, losing by 1 and then winning by 4 in overtime.  Younger had her 2nd- and 3rd-highest scoring games of the season against Hampton, scoring 37 and 28 points.

February Madness?

-With a 57-47 win over Kecoughtan on Thursday night, Warwick's boys basketball team locked up the 7th seed in the Peninsula District tournament.  Warwick (8-14, 6-12 PD) was led by Devon Asbury, who scored 19 points in the win.  The Raiders will now play Bethel on Tuesday (02/15) at 7:15pm at Bethel High School; Bethel won the previous two matchups by 13 and 2 points.

-The Lady Raiders, led by 16 points from LaQuanda Younger, beat Kecoughtan 56-29 on Thursday night and earned the 2nd seed in the Peninsula District tournament.  Warwick (19-3, 15-3) hosts 7th-place Denbigh on Monday (02/14) at 7:15pm; Warwick won the previous two matchups by 24 and 22 points.

More Basketball Updates

-Although it comes as no surprise, BIG congratulations to the Lady Raiders' LaQuanda Younger (19.5ppg) for being named the Peninsula District Player of the Year tonight.  This is Younger's second POY honor and 3rd straight year being on the All-District first team.  Thanks to Coach Starks for the correction.

BIG congratulations also go to senior Breven Lyons for being named to the boys' first team.  Lyons is averaging 13.9ppg and has scored in double figures in all but 5 of the Raiders' 21 games so far.

Please come out to support the Raiders and Lady Raiders in their final home games of the year tomorrow night against Kecoughtan. 

Indoor Track Districts

-The boys indoor track team took 4th place with 68.5 points at the Peninsula District Indoor Track & Field Championships on Tuesday.  The Raiders qualified 9 athletes in 13 individual events plus one relay team for the Eastern Region Championships.  Warwick was led by 2nd place finishes from Arshade Yates in the pole vault, Desmond Fogg in the 1600m and 3200m, and the 4x800m relay team of Javon Walker, Darius Williams, Deshonte Parker, and Arshade Yates.  Brandon Delk picked up a 3rd place in the shot put and Javon Walker took 3rd in the 500m.

-The girls indoor track team finished in 8th place with 10 points at Districts on Tuesday.  Olivia Abbott finished 4th in the 1000m.

Basketball Updates

-The boys basketball team lost a close one to Bethel on Tuesday night, but remains in 7th place in the PD standings.  The Raiders (7-14, 5-12 PD) lost 46-44 and were led by 16 points from Breven Lyons and 14 from Devon Asbury.

-The girls basketball team beat Bethel 68-33 behind 16 points from Ashley Cunningham.  The Lady Raiders (18-3, 14-3 PD) are still in a 3-way tie for 2nd place with one game remaining.

Warwick Girls 64, Denbigh 42

The Lady Raiders took to the court in pink uniforms in support of breast cancer research on Friday night and defeated Denbigh by 24.  LaQuanda Younger led Warwick (17-3, 13-3 PD) with 17 points.  The Lady Raiders are in a 3-way tie for 2nd place in the Peninsula District, one game behind District-leading Woodside.
