Warwick Girls 62, Hampton 58
It's hard enough to win when you're playing against 5 girls. It's even more difficult when you're forced to play against the 3 officials as well. Despite a number of highly questionable calls, the Lady Raiders defeated Hampton 62-58 on Friday night in overtime. Warwick (14-3, 10-3) trailed by 1 at the end of the 1st quarter, but led 26-19 at halftime. Hampton had a big 3rd quarter to pull ahead 39-37, but the Lady Raiders fought hard down the stretch and the 4th quarter ended with a 52-52 tie. LaQuanda Younger scored 6 of her 28 points in the 4-minute overtime period and Diana Gregory sunk 2 key free throws to seal the win. Tenisha Williams scored 12 and Doneisha Eley added 10 for the Lady Raiders; both had 10 rebounds as well. These two ladies were hammered by Hampton players all night, but could rarely get a foul call to go their way. Congrats to Doneisha, Tenisha, and Q (12 rebounds) on their double-doubles.
Warwick earned a hard-fought victory tonight in a pretty empty, but still rowdy, Hampton gym. This was a much-needed win for the Lady Raiders after a sluggish effort in Tuesday night's loss to Woodside.
