Hello Raiders Fans!

Welcome to WarwickRaidersSports.com! My name is Brian Fries and I'll be writing about Warwick's sports teams this year.  I think this blog will be a great way to give our student-athletes the credit they deserve for their accomplishments in the classroom, on the playing fields, and in our community.

As a bit of background, I was born and raised in Newport News and graduated from Warwick in 2006.  I ran track and cross country all 4 years of high school.  I have had the privilege of serving as a volunteer cross country and indoor track coach at Warwick since 2008 and as an assistant coach for outdoor track and field since the spring of 2009.  I graduated from the College of William & Mary in May of 2010 with a B.A. in Public Policy and a minor in Mathematics.  I am in the process of earning my M.A.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction for Elementary Education from W&M.

I will cover all of the sports that Warwick has to offer and bring you additional commentary about Peninsula District sports.  As a former athlete and current coach of a non revenue-producing sport, I'm well aware that all high school sports are not always covered equally by the local media.  I'll do my best to bring you updates on each Warwick sport on at least a weekly basis.  This blog will also be your stop for information about team fundraisers, important dates (such as for physicals), and interviews with coaches and players.

I'd love for each reader to leave comments, feedback, and suggestions on this blog.  That being said, let's keep everything respectful...for you current Warwick students, remember that Raider R.E.S.P.E.C.T.  Differences of opinion are definitely welcome, but offensive, profane, and/or insulting comments will be removed.  Please remember that high school athletics is about so much more than wins and losses.  Perfect seasons and state titles are the goal, and our athletes are generally doing the best that they can.  Spam will also not be tolerated.

Again, welcome to your one-stop place for information about Warwick High School athletics.  I'm looking forward to bringing you stories about our athletes' successes in the classroom, on the track, on the field, in the pool, on the hardwood, on the grass/clay/hard court, on the mat, on the course, and in our community.  GO RAIDERS!!
