Kaine, Allen to debate at VBA in July

The Virginia Bar Association announced Thursday that U.S. Senate candidates and former Govs. Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) will square off July 21 at the groups summer meeting.

The debate, which the VBA says is part of its 20-year tradition of offering the first debate of the campaign season for candidates seeking statewide office, will be held at The Homestead in Hot Springs.

The former governors are battleing for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Jim Webb. Allen is trying to regain the seat he lost to Webb in 2006.
