Virginia’s junior U.S. Senator Mark Warner is off to India Saturday as the head of a five-member congressional delegation. Warner, who co-chairs the Senate’s India caucus, and his colleagues will embark on a two-week tour in an effort to "expand business, trade, defense and cultural relationships" between the United States and India. "The United States and India share a common democracy, a common language and a broad understanding of business," Warner said. "I believe we have reached a point where it is time for the U.S.-India relationship to advance from a longtime friendship to a full partnership, and I look forward to identifying and pursuing additional opportunities for our two nations to work more closely together." The trip comes on the heels of a visit to India in November by Gov. Bob McDonnell, who opened two state trade offices in the country and entice Indian businesses to expand in the commonwealth. Joining Warner on the trip to the world's most populous democracy are Sen.Michael Bennet, D-Colorado, Sen. Tom Udall, D-New Mexico, Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-New York, and Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-Louisiana.
