The Virginia Sheriff’s Association named Senate Minority Leader Thomas K. "Tommy" Norment, R-Williamsburg, as its Outstanding Legislator of the Year for 2011 at the organizations annual banquet in Norfolk on Sept. 13.
The Association’s executive director John Jones said Norment received the award due to his many years of commitment in the General Assembly to protecting the interests of law enforcement officers. "What stands out is his commitment to prevent the layoff of 1,500 deputy sheriffs the year before last, and 700 deputy sheriffs last year," Jones said. Norment said he was "humbled" by the honor.
"I am committed to promoting public safety measures throughout our Commonwealth and to ensuring that our law enforcement officials are provided with the resources needed to ensure the security of our communities," Norment said. "Throughout the past decade, Virginia has enjoyed a substantial decline in crime rates. Ongoing support for and investments in the public safety community are critical to ensuring the continuation of this positive trend."

You're right. Thanks, I've fixed the majot typo. WHile he wants to be Majority Leader, he still has an election to get through to see if that happens. I apologize for the error.
