U.S. rep. Robert C. "Bobby" Scott will be holding a town hall meeting Monday in Norfolk to discuss the federal budget deficit and job creation proposals working their way through Congress.
Joining Scott will be CEO and President of the Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis Michael Cassidy. The Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis is a Richmond based think tank that studies tax and budget issues.
"The Budget agreement enacted last month cut the deficit by $1 trillion through spending caps but mandated an additional $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction through a Joint Select Committee," Scott said in a press release. "We do not yet know what programs will be cut or if new revenue will be raised. The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction's recommendations will have to be voted on by both the House and the Senate by December 23, 2011. Additionally, the President has recently submitted his recommendations on how to further reduce the deficit and his proposal to get Americans back to work. The town hall meeting will give me an opportunity to discuss the budget deficit and job creation proposals with my constituents and to hear their concerns."
The town hall meeting will take place on Monday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Norfolk City Council Chambers at City Hall, 810 Union St., Norfolk.
