Gov. Bob McDonnell will host a private reception Monday in Richmond for director Steven Spielberg and his production team from the movie "Lincoln" at the governor’s mansion.
Spielberg is shooting part of the film about President Abraham Lincoln in P and Richmond between the second week of October and Dec. 10. The movie is based on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book "Team of Rivals" which chronicles Lincoln’s building his war cabinet as he took office and the Civil War began to tear the nation in two. Daniel Day-Lewis will star as Lincoln, and Sally Fields will play his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. Neither actor is expected to attend Monday’s reception. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in the fall of 2012.
Spielberg was offered a number of incentives to shoot parts of the film in the commonwealth, including $1 million from the Governor’s Motion Picture Opportunity Fund, $2.5 million in tax credits from the Virginia Motion Picture Tax Credit Fund, and $1.1 million of in-kind contributions such as free office space, according to the governor’s office.
