U.S. Sen. Jim Webb is in Hampton Roads today, and this afternoon he'll be meeting with students going to Tidewater Community College thanks to the updated and overhauled GI Bill.
Webb of course was instrumental in crafting the education initiative crafted, and military services members have responded in droves - filling TCC's student rolls so much that the community college ranks in the top five of schools where the GI Bill benefits are being used.
Webb's office said he would be delivering the keynote address to celebrate the 2,300 students at TCC with roots in the GI Bill.
Here are a few more details from Webb's office.
Senator Webb introduced the Post-9/11 GI Bill on January 3, 2007—his first day in office. Signed into law on June 30, 2008, the landmark bi-partisan legislation provides veterans of the post-9/11 era with comprehensive educational benefits similar to those provided to veterans of WWII.
Since Congress enacted the Post-9/11 GI Bill in July 2008, over 480,000 veterans have already applied for their benefits to attend college or other post secondary programs
