Entertainer Wayne Newton is scheduled to appear before the House Rules Committee on Tuesday to support a measure that would extend official state recognition to the Patawomeck Indian Tribe of Virginia, of which he is a member.
A large concentration of tribal members reside in Stafford County, which is represented by House Speaker William J. Howell, who has sponsored the measure.
The speaker and a local tribal representative helped arrange Newton's visit, and the entertainer reportedly canceled one of his Las Vegas shows so he could testify, so this must be pretty important to him.
All this was contained in a media advisory from G. Paul Nardo, the speaker's chief of staff, who has received several Newton-esque inquires.
No word yet on whether Newton will be available to answer questions.
