President Barack Obama is returning to Hampton Roads next week to rally voters for Democrat Creigh Deeds.
Democrats confirmed on Wednesday that Obama will rally voters at Old Dominion University next Tuesday, exactly one week before Virginia voters head to the polls. Deeds is trailing in most polls to Republican Bob McDonnell, but the Democrats have been working to inject some juice in the race with former President Bill Clinton stumping for Deeds in Northern Virginia on Tuesday.
Obama was a frequent visitor to Hampton Roads on the presidential campaign trail in 2008, and that attention paid off with Obama preforming very well in a region that was generally expected to lean toward Republican John McCain because of his military ties.
Obama's rally is expected to bring energy and help Democrats turn out women, African American and young voters - who turned out in big numbers for Obama in 2008, but have remained largely on the sidelines during the 2009 Virginia race for governor.
More details about the time and how to get there as they come out.

Polls Don't Matter
John McCain thought he was going to win hampton roads and Virginia Beach (so did republicans) because they don't understand VA. Bob McDonnell will do well in Southwest VA and regardless of what polls tell you. He will not win unless he wins NOVA because he will definitely lose Richmond and Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads, but Deeds will lose Chesapeake which is where all of John McCains Navy people live. Hampton Roads and VA Beach are almost all African Americans that will turnout strong because President Obama will rally them at Hampton (Black University) the students from their will connect with Virginia State and Old Dominion which is where the students from the Hampton Area go to school because they don't want to leave the area. So, if Bob McDonnell believes the polls for 1 second he is a fool. Those polls do not poll cell phones and if they do college students and most people do not pick up phone numbers they don't know, its called caller ID. Trust and believe that Bob McDonnell is down at least by a few points because he is up by 8. That's not enough in VA. Ask Hillary Clinton (remember the primaries) the Obama Admin understand VA, that's why there is no focus on Southwest (Roanoke, Lynchburg) because the population is so slim in Salem area. NOVA will determine everything. That's where the people are. Just a perspective from an independent obviously from Virginia.

HA! Deeds needs Obama to help him? Deeds has been down 7-15 points from McDonnell since the campaign began. The Dems will try anything. They are so desperate now. I'm laughing all the way to the voting booth.

Q: Why have African Americans "remained largely on the sidelines during the 2009 Virginia race for governor."?
A: Because both candidates are White.
