Former Republican presidential contenderMike Huckabee is in Richmond tonight headlining the Family Foundation's annual gala.
Huckabee was the second to last man standing in the GOP free-for-all that eventually nominated Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2008. Huckabee was all but eliminated during the winter but kept on campaigning in Virginia, even holding a Virginia Beach rally shortly before the Republican primary.
This year Huckabee has campaigned out west for Republican Bob McDonnell, and now he'll take center stage as the conservative Family Foundation celebrates another year.
Organizers are expecting a crowd of 1,300 at the gala, and that's good news for Republican Del. G. Glenn Oder who is receiving the "legislator of the year award" because of his work curbing payday lending in Virginia.
Oder is being pressed on the campaign trail by political newcomer Gary West, a Democrat.
Victoria Cobb is the president of The Family Foundation of Virginia, and she offer this quote on Oder's effort to curb predatory loans.
“Delegate Oder showed principled leadership and an ability to work with a diverse coalition of organizations and legislators to get results,” said Cobb. “The compromise bill he was able to craft has significantly reduced the number of payday len
ding stores in Virginia and helped protect families from predatory lenders.”

Ron, I just wanted to inform you after the results were in: You were arguing with a girl with downs syndrome. It's good to know that you two are operating on a level playing field.

It is extremely odd that Abbott has gone undeground. The debate at CNU moderated by Joel Rubin (hardly unfriendly to democrats) was an enormous blunder. And her conduct at the Denbigh Days parade were shameful. Never got out of her dirty convertable (the car was unwashed) (you'd think she'd wash if for a public parade) to shake one hand or say hell-o. Sat in the back waving like Queen Victoria to the peons. While I'm not thrilled with Hamilton, he at the very least has made himself available to the voters and never avoided a debate or public appearance. Tough choice, but given the conduct of Abbott, I have to vote for Hamilton!

Antonio-
The 93rd district includes more than Newport News. It will be up to the James City County AND Newport News voters to decide.
Hint: Candidates go negative for a reason and they refuse public appearances for a reason. Which one has done both?

Squekie - mental health is a serious issue in Virginia. One I'm sure Delegate Abbott will work hard on.
As for my own sanity in questioning Delegate Hamilton's actions, do you also think that Creigh Deeds, Bob McDonnell, and Bill Bolling "need mental health care"? They asked him to resign months ago. I never dared go that far, I just suggest that the people of Newport News should "resign" him on Nov. 3.

Antonio:
You have been told before by others, you need mental health care. You are fixated with Hamilton. He has been "proven" of nothing. He will not be.
Go to your doc or CSB and get meds for anger management and dillusion.

Robin Abbott spent her career as an attorney helping veterans who were manipulated by crooked lenders.
Phil Hamilton can sympathize with crooks because, well, he is one! :)

Yes sireee, that Glenn Oder, "he's the man". he's the phony, two faced, lying politician, that should be voted out of office in November.
