Democrats are trying to make sure that Virginia voters outside of Hampton Roads know that President Barack Obama is behind Creigh Deeds' run for Virginia governor.
Obama hit Norfolk this week to stir up some excitement for Deeds campaign against Republican Bob McDonnell and now he's hitting about 330,000 Virginians mailboxes. Here's a blurb:
"Last year you joined with over 600,000 Virginians who registered and voted for the first time in their lives. Your message was clear, your voice was heard and today we’re beginning to see the fruits of that labor.
Together, we’ve rescued our economy from the brink with a historic recovery package, passed the Lilly Ledbetter Act to ensure women get equal pay for equal work, lifted the ban on stem cell research and now we’re on the verge of ensuring quality, affordable health care for every American.
But what we’ve accomplished so far cannot overshadow the task that lies ahead. To make real changes in this country, it will take more than just my presidency – it requires your continued vigilance in the cause of progress.
To move this country forward, I need the support and partnership of good governors who are ready to help lay the foundations of change. And this November 3rd is your opportunity to help Virginia do just that.
Creigh Deeds is the governor we need to continue the progress made by Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and he is the partner I need in Virginia to help put our country back on track."

You've got a point, Bill. We should have been thrifty the last eight years and the current squeeze wasn't so bad. But Dick Cheney (W's controller) said "Reagan proved deficits don't matter" so here we are ...

Who's paying for these letters? Just one more example of Obama's open checkbook. Problem is that somebody has to pay, and there are a lot of people being duped into beliveing the Feds have a huge pot of money to dole out. Nobody's mentioned how the bail outs, clunkers, and other programs are going to be paid for. 25% of every dollar I earn is being taken by the feds already (not counting state, local, and hidden taxes). At some point, it's just not going to be worth it to work.

Creigh Deeds will further the federal change based on trickle up poverty through assessment of taxes on the middle class to support those who do not or will not work for themselves. Tax and spend? You got what you paid for with at the federal level, prepare for it at the state level if you cast a vote for Creigh Deeds. Voter beware.

Hallow boasting about saving the country from financial ruin is just too much to read...we are far from rescued: the debts incurred with take decades and more to pay. Right now China and Saudi Arabia have bought up most of our nation's debt. When is the last time someone has told you that? Not the President for sure as he surges forward to increase the national debt.

The editorial page, considers all aspects of a candidate and balances the good and bad of the issues it addresses. It has taken stands for both Republicans and Democrats.
The DP News Editor is a liberal, democrat. Some days it is as if one is reading two separate papers between Section 1 and the Editorial page. It is the job of the publisher to make sure both sides cover news (not National Enquirer attack pieces).
The Obama ODU coverage was over the top positive while the Trible letter story was a nonstory over the top.
Political reporters (Kimball Payne) and their editors need to realize the public is not stupid. False accolades and false stories of wrong are viewed with distain by readers. They also result in no credibility of either the paper or its employees.
