Republican Bob McDonnell and supporter Sheila Johnson, the billionaire co-founder of Black Entertainment Television, are hitting Hampton Roads tomorrow for a barnstorming tour.
First thing McDonnell has an endorsement event in Virginia Beach at Kitco Fiber Optics, a business that has donated to his campaign. It's unclear who is coming out in support of McDonnell but let's take a whirl through the Virginia Public Access Project.
Kitco is a donor for McDonnell and Kitco is also a donor to the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce
So let's step out on a limb and say McDonnell might get the nod from a business group. Wink...blink... ...double wink.
Then McDonnell and Johnson have a Women's luncheon at the Westin Hotel, and African-American business leaders round table at Virginia Wesleyan College and finally a meet-and-greet at McCormick and Schmick's in Virginia Beach.
It's a full day, and you can bet that McDonnell is going to tout the fact that his relationship with Gov. Doug Wilder kept the Democrat from endorsing Democrat Creigh Deeds. And a women's luncheon with a successful billionaire is probably going to be a good tool for McDonnell to try to put to rest his opinions about working women - espoused in his 1989 thesis.
