Fortunately for GOP gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, his political hopes are not intertwined with the basketball fortunes of his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame.
McDonnell is an experienced legislator, a former attorney general, and will run a strong race against the Democratic nominee, who is still to be determined.
Meanwhile, the post-season hopes of his Fighting Irish are hanging by a thread.
That hasn't stopped McDonnell from announcing a March Madness contest. It will give Virginians the chance to put up their NCAA basketball tournament picks against McDonnell's. The winner gets a choice of dinner with Bob in a restaurant of their choice or a three-on-three game against Bob and his twin boys, Sean and Bobby.
Personally, we're hoping for the latter -- just to see if the former AG still has a sky hook.
"Let's find out who really knows their college basketball," McDonnell said in a press release. "I am personally waiting to see if Notre Dame can get off the bubble and into the Dance. If so, I'm taking them to win it all. And yes, I know that means I'll be no threat to win this pool."
