President Bill Clinton hitting Richmond and Roanoke on Sunday...
So far Democrat Barack Obama's campaign hasn't used Hillary Clinton to rally the troops in Virginia, but that doesn't mean that former President Bill Clinton isn't making the rounds.
Clinton is making a campaign swing through Richmond on Sunday that will also take him to Roanoke, where his wife did very well during the state Democratic primary in February. You'll recall that even before the primary Hillary Clinton was not the one who stumped here in Hampton Roads. It was Bill Clinton who packed a Virginia Beach high school gym.
The details are still trickling out, but the campaign says that both events will be free and open to the public. And what can you say about the timing, it sure seems perfect for a Clinton barnstorming tour, especially with Republican John McCain bringing his running mate - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin - to Virginia Beach and Richmond for rallies on Monday.
McCain and Palin are sure to draw a crowd - especially because Palin's never been to Hampton Roads before and McCain hasn't visited since early February. Watch for Obama's team to work to damper the excitment around the Republican visit - probably with more surrogate tours early next week.
