Gilmore releases audio of Warner ripping the NRA, Christian Coalition and "home schoolers"
Update: Kevin Hall, the director of communications for the Warner campaign, sent this note a short while ago about the Gilmore video/audio ad.
Dave – you are aware that the “new” Gilmore attack was unsuccessfully launched
back in July, discussed by both candidates during Labor Day festivities in
Buena Vista, and center on comments Warner allegedly made as state party chair
14 years ago, right? The absence of that context in your blog post could allow
readers to believe the tape was recorded yesterday.

Republican Senate candidate Jim Gilmore is pretty clearly hoping that this audiotape will prove to be a macaca moment for Democratic front-runner Mark Warner.
Thoughts?

Thank God only a few more weeks of having to listen to Gilmore carp about others rather than himself! The good thing is, after this campaign, he won't be able to run for dog catcher! Mark Warner is going to be Virginia's next U.S. Senator.

Republicans are despicable, contemptible and probably worse!

The recording of Mark Warner is from 1994 Has anybody bothered to ask Warner about it today?

Governor Warner was talking to a room full of Democrats and was characterizing how those in the room often see some of us on the Republican side.
It is indeed unfortunate that many on the Left think that home schoolers are weird isolationist. Home schoolers are generally very well informed and independent thinking, because they do not rely on the idiot box as their only source of information.
NRA/VCDL members stand-up for our Second Amendment rights and the right to use firearms for a variety of practical uses, including defending ourselves and others. Nearly every VCDL member I have ever met has been the epitome of civility and politeness.
The Pro-Lifers only ask that all of us, regardless of age, including those pending birth, receive equal treatment under the law. Many who are Pro-life also are willing to admit that there are some instances where abortion may be the only logical medical option, but such instances should be rare.
Most Virginians on both sides of the aisle, can find common ground on most of these issues. I think what Governor Warner had in mind was that some on the Left see all on the Right through the lens of extremism. He should have added encouragement for those on the Left to engage those on the Right in constructive dialog, but since he was trying to energize his side, I guess his polarizing comment, even in context, was not particularly helpful to anyone, regardless of political affiliation.
In the past, Governor Warner has indeed reached out to traditionally conservative groups as most Democratic politicians who are successful in Virginia have done.
While not a terrible gaff, Governor Warner can help repair some of the damage to bipartisanship that this quote has done, by setting up bi-partisan advisory groups that address these key advocacy groups and their issues.

Instead of throwing dirt, Governor Gilmore, how about providing constructive solutions (or anything substantive??) Like McCain and Palin - - you're all hat and no horse - - and since you're down, you have to throw even more dirt. What a shame!
