School system hyjinx....
Interesting story coming out of Washington D.C. with regards to the John McCain - Sarah Palin event tomorrow in Fairfax.
The rally is scheduled to be held at Fairfax High School and apparently political rallies are strictly prohibited during school hours at public schools. The Republican ticket is drawing some heat for the event, but school officials are defending the move, according to the AP:
School system spokesman Paul Regnier said senior government students at Fairfax High will be permitted to attend the McCain rally. They can also opt out if they choose.
He said the school system will receive $10,208 in rent from the McCain campaign for the event.
School system policy states that “school buildings and grounds may not be used for campaign activities during school hours.”
And following on that line - it's important to point out that Democrat Barack Obama is likely to run into similar problems. His rally today in Lebanon was at Lebanon High School and the event tomorrow in Norfolk is being held at Granby High School.
We're assuming that students at these schools have similar opt out options for the Obama event.
