Democrats find replacement candidate to push Wittman...
U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman, R-Westmoreland, won the race to replace Jo Ann Davis last December after she died of breast cancer.
And it appeared that Wittman was going to be able to cruise into his first two-year term this November after his Democratic challenger Keith Hummel dropped out of the race in early July because of past financial problems. Hummel, an emergency room doctor, had a series a of bankruptcy filings in his past.
But almost a full month after Hummel departed, Democrats have drafted Bill S. Day Jr. from Warrenton - basically the opposite end of the sprawling first district from the Peninsula. Day challenged Del. L. Scott Lingamfelter, R-31, in 2007 but lost the race by a 55 percent to 44 percent margin.
That was Day's first race for elected office and he outspent Lingamfelter by more than $100,000 according to campaign finance reports but was unable to win the district which includes part of Fauquier and Prince William counties. Day is a businessman and licensed mental health counselor.

Now that's exactly what Washington needs, a mental health counselor.

Lucky for Wittman, the 1cd Dems don't seem to be able to get out their own way. How in heck did they ever choose Hummel in the first place?
