1st District Democrat Hummel suspends campaign

Dr. Keith Hummel, the Democratic candidate challenging Rob Wittman in the 1st Congressional District, has suspended his campaign.

"Although I have always been open about my past financial difficulties, it is clear to me that they will become a distraction from the real issues at stake in this election," Hummel said in a release posted at Fred2Blue, which I picked up from a post by Vivian Paige.

Vivian also reports that another Democratic candidate may step forward to take Hummel's place.

Wittman was elected in a special election to succeed the late Jo Ann Davis.
