A presidential candidate with a sword?
In a blouse and britches, Captain John Smith announced his run for the presidency on Monday, as part of Chesapeake Bay Foundation move to highlight issues facing the bay on the campaign trail this summer and fall.
Smith, helped found Jamestown and sailed his boat all over the bay in his quest for treasure, is the front egde of the foundations "A Clear Vision for a Clean Bay" campaign. Th overall message is one of reducing polution and restoring the ecology of the bay.
It ought to be interesting if the foundation can get Barack Obama and John McCain to talk extensively about the future of the bay and the watershed, as well as the host of people whose livelihoods depend on the bay.
Here's an important side note - to be read at a fast lawyerly pace - from the foundation.
*The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is an independent, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams. It does not endorse candidates. CBF is running a fictional presidential campaign to elevate the Bay and clean water in the presidential election.
