Del. Bob Marshall is always quotable...
Del. Bob Marshall, R-Prince William, made his best conservative pitch to the York County Republican Women's Club on Monday night. Marshall touted his abortion and 2nd Amendment credentials and made specific attacks on both his opponents in the race.
Who knows Marshall may have even won over some folks for his U.S. Senate bid against former Gov. Jim Gilmore.
But it was a back-and-forth near the end of his speech that brought the best line out of Marshall, who has a reputation for pointed remarks. A Navy veteran was wondering aloud about Marshall's toughness, saying that she found his international political strategy too similar to isolationism.
Marshall decided to quell her concerns.
"Ma'am, I have been in more fist fights then anyone in this room," Marshall said.

STD - What we are doing in Iraq is more important to the Europeans than it is to us. If the French and the Germans are not willing to support us -- actively back our play -- and let us use THEIR bases, then the troops we have in Europe will not do us any good anyway. As it is, these people left us holding the bag in Iraq.
After we went into the Middle East, booted Hussein's army out of Kuwait, and tried to pressure Hussein is into abandoning his WMD program, the French and the Germans helped to poke holes into the embargo. The French and the Germans have to learn that that kind of behavior will result in the lost of their own troops, not just ours.
Having our own bases in Europe costs us a bundle, and It adds to the deficit in our balance of trade. The Europeans are not paupers. They no longer face a huge threat. When we need bases in Europe, it should be THEIR bases we use, not our bases.
With the demise of the USSR, we like to think of the USA as the world’s sole remaining superpower. It is not that simple. Due the success the United States has had in maintaining world peace, much of the world has gotten richer. As time passes, it will become increasingly obvious that we now have a multi-polar world. Instead of stringing military bases all around the world, to confront a single threat, we will have to adopt an entirely new strategy, one that involves reliable allies willing to carry their own weight. Without such help, not even the USA will be able to maintain world peace..

JAB:
When he told us in Waynesboro he favored removing our troops from Europe and placing them on the Mexican Border.... He was screaming Isolationism.
Meanwhile the talk is all tough on Iraq. One wonders if he realizes how critical our European bases were to invade Iraq and Afghanistan?

What did Marshall say that sounded like Isolationism?
