Amazing apology from McCain's pastor friend...
He gets far less publicity then some bombastic pastors out there, but Pastor John Hagee is a bonafide Youtube phenom. Just surf around fo4r five mintues and see what you can dig up.
Presidential hopeful John McCain sought out Hagee's endorsement, in large part as an attempt to heal his broken relationship with evangelical voters following remarks blasting Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson in 2000. Give McCain credit, he's has distanced himself from Hagee and also called some of Hagee's views "nonsense." Like when Hagee called Hurricane Katrina "the judgement of God."
But so far the top argument coming from conservatives is that it's not that bad because Hagee wasn't McCain's pastor for 20 years. Seems like that an even better reason to actually vet the guy, but that's neither here nor there.
On Tuesday, Hagee apparently attempted to mend fences with Catholics, expressing "deep regret for any comments Catholics found hurtful."
Let's see what might they have found hurtful, was it him calling the Catholic Church "a false cult system" or when he referred to the church as "the great whore?"
Does that even really pass for an apology these days?
