Gloucester's main post office will soon bear the name of former Rep. Jo Ann Davis, who died of breast cancer last fall at the age of 57.
The U.S. Senate approved a bill naming the post office at Gloucester Courthouse for Davis Tuesday night on an unrecorded voice vote. The measure, which passed the House two weeks ago, now goes to President Bush for his signature.
The bill is the handiwork of Davis's successor in Congress, Rep. Robert Wittman, R-Westmoreland.
Sen. John Warner, R-Va., called the bill a ``small token of recognition and gratitude for someone who had given so much to the commonwealth and her country."
Davis served in Congress since 2001, representing Virginia's 1st District, which stretches from Newport News to Prince William County.

Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis was a brave woman, whose courage in the face of cancer is an inspiration for us all. Having said this, I note that she actively supported every effort on the part of President Bush to borrow large sums of money from our unsuspecting children. For this reason, I, for one, am opposed to having the Gloucester Post Office named after her.
