Southeast Virginia's surest sign that spring is near
Thanks to Robert Bain for announcing (in a comment attached to an earlier post) that the 60th annual Wakefield Shad Planking (an event we tried to honor with the naming of this blog) is coming up on April 16.
The speakers, Bain reports, will be former Govs. Mark Warner and Jim Gilmore and state Del. Bob Marshall.
That would be three out of the four candidates seeking to succeed Sen. John Warner, who is planning to retire when his term ends in January. (The fourth candidate is Julien Modica, who has filed the paperwork to run as a Democrat and has a campaign Web site of sorts, but has yet to develop a public profile.)
That lineup can only bolster the Shad Planking's reputation as The Place for Virginia political candidates to shake hands, eat fish and blow up the campaign yard sign budget.

The candidacy of Julien Modica missed the Wakefield Shad Planking once, but will NOT let that happen again. You can count on me to attend the annual event.
