Vice President Jim Webb?
Sen. Jim Webb's office sent out this press clipping a short while ago, an opinion piece from the weekly New York Observer.
And according to the Observer's Steve Kornacki, 2008 is Webb's year. He probably would not have been elected in Virginia in an earlier year, Kornacki argues, because there wasn't the voter anger and/or dismay over the war in Iraq.
And a few years down the line, Webb's star is likely to dim when the issue of the war -- the focal point of his campaign and, thus far, of his term in the Senate -- is finally laid to rest.
This year? "The only plausible circumstance under which Mr. Webb will run for national office in 2008," Kornacki writes, "is if the Democratic presidential nominee selects him for the vice presidential slot."
He would be an asset (and a good counterpoint) for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, Kornacki notes.

While this may only have a remote chance of happening, I personally couldn't think of anyone in this world I would more like to see occupy Dick Cheney's office after all the damage Cheney has done to this country. It would be a fitting and appropriate irony to have Mr. Webb bring his selfless concern for our men and women in uniform to that role after they have been used and abused by this administration.
