So how about it Packer Fans or foes? Is Marty right or wrong? And why?
Yet again...this week...my work schedule interfered with me attending the Packers Benefit Game against the homestanding Franklin Bronco's.
Packers won 35-33 with some late game heroics, led by James Wrenn. Franklin figures to play in the Region A Regional Championship game this year (like every year) and maybe even bring home some more State Hardware in December. Darren Parker's teams are well coached and play an extremely hard nosed brand of football. So the close score comes as no big surprise to me or anyone else in Smithfield. By all accounts it was a classic heavyweight title bout.
Region A writer for www.virginiapreps.rivals.com , Marsel T. Mason filed this report: http://virginiapreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1118871
Next up - Surry County Cougars @ Surry in the always classic "Battle of Route 10". (I'll be there - bank on it!)

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM at Smithfield High Schools Packer Field for this evenings Scrimmage against the Indians from Southampton.
The always tough Indians have a new Head Coach this year. Wes Griffith takes over for the Indians after longtime Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, Football Coach, Basketball Coach......Littleton Parker, "Mr. Southampton", decided to relinquish the Head Varsity Football position.
Coach Parker has long been considered one of the classiest coaches in this Region. It's strange for me to think about not see him on the sidelines this year. For years, I've often wondered how he balanced so many different jobs during the course of a school year. He must own some SERIOUS time management skills or he never sleeps!
I've known Wes for several years now, he's a great motivator and will be a positive influence on the program. I'm glad for him and wish him the best this year.
OK, on a sad note, it is VERY UNLIKELY that I'll be able to make this evenings game. This situation is completely out of my control. I'll be "making the bacon" late this evening. My REAL job comes first and unfortunately, I'm in a situation this week that requires me to put my other life on the back burner! I'm sure everyone will understand. And PLEASE chime in on here with your thoughts about how this years Packers looked during this Scrimmage.
