Smithfield Packers Blog - 2010-11 Ends!
Well guys and gals, I really wanted to do a better job than what I did this past season but my "career life" got in the way of my "playtime". Unfortunately, job commitments and requirements caused me to miss MANY more events than I wanted to miss.
As usual, it was an honor to work with the kids this year. A great bunch of kids and coaches in our little community.
Seniors graduated a couple of weeks ago, many will be continuing their playing careers at the next level, some will go into the workforce and others will just go out and earn a college degree. Whichever path you choose, work your butts off to get the most out of life. Never "settle for average". Push, push and push. Continue to be the best that you can possibly be, never stop dreaming and reaching for the stars. The most exciting chapter of your life is just now starting. The foundation has been laid, now is time for you to build your future. Don't let anyone tell you can't. I wish you all the absolute best in your future endeavors.
A new dawn is rising in Isle of Wight County. June 30th will mark the end of Dr. McPhersons tenure as Superintendent of Schools, giving way to Mrs. Katrise Perera. New group of Seniors, new incoming Freshman class. Every year is new and exciting and expect the 2011-12 year to be just as exciting as previous years.
I'll see as many games as possible next season. It looks as though my schedule will be as tough as it was this past school year, so I may be relegated to PT photographer (sort of what I was THIS past year). Regardless - I want everyone to know that I support our Packers 100%!!!
Everyone have a great summer!
This is GREAT!! Way to go Wayne!!!

South Hampton:
Scrimmage went well. Outscored SH 5td's to 1. Offense looked very GOOD. Defense up front will be tough. LB's although new are almost there. DB's are coming along. The BAD thing this night; #70's injury. This being his SENIOR year.....I hate to see that happen. Wish him quick recovery hopefully he can get back out there before seasons end.
Franklin:
Wow......If ya missed THAT GAME SHAME on you. Seemed at the start the Football Gods didn't want this game to happen. Thunder-Lightening-Rain. Finally dissapated and the Game went off.
1st of all Props to Franklin. They looked like they are gonna be the State A Div 1 STATE CHAMPS this year. They are gonna be tough. BEYOUTIFULL Field.
Offense Looked Good. #'s 11-8-33 Ran through over and around the Bronco's seemingly at will. Fumbles and Penalties; gonna have to work on those.
Defense Looked Good Enough. Franklin worked the No-Huddle up tempo scheme very well. LB's and DB's made strides and are getting there.
The last 5 minutes of this was well worth paying a $20 admission for. OUR Pack down 33-21 with 3+ to go. Offense scores. Bronco's try to kill clock and are stopped on 4th and 3 (eerily like last years game, and by the same guy). Then the offense goes down and scores w/35+ ticks left on the clock. TO WIN 35-33. Man that was a good Game. The PACK won that game. Coaches didn't have get in faces and tell em "Keep your Heads up". The PACK absolutely couldn't accept losing that game. PROPS to FHS Bronco's. The last 2 GAMES (Chancellor-and the Benefit Game); They are the "CARDIAC KIDS" (of the old Cleveland Browns fame of the early 80's). VERY GOOD Game guys.
Next up SURRY.

Mr Blanchard, I appreciate your work with the teams in the BRD. The exposure has always been strong on both sides of the BRD but now we can show case the our kids. Thank you

Mr. McClary, I appreciate the comments. I wish that I could commit more time to kids at SHS. We're a hidden treasure. The community support and dedication of the teachers and coaches are tremendous.

Is there any chance you might be covering any part of the school's swim season?
Posted by: Kris Rodriguez | 12/01/2010 at 09:52 PM
Kris,
YES, I will be covering the Swim Team this year as well as Boy's and Girl's Basketball Teams. I hope to put those wheels in motion this weekend, setting up some contacts and gathering some information.

And Wrestling....

Mr. Blanchard, thanks for including the basketball teams. As usual they have been playing really hard this year. The boys especially have been putting out all they have, but without proper direction, it amounts to naught. Last night against New Kent, at halftime being ahead, the game strategy was changed, why I don't know, but subsequently it may have cost them the game. Newby had a box and one on him in the second half, and it was not realized by the bench until just over 1 minute left in the game, which came too late. I truly hope these young men get the opportunity to persevere.

Again, the coaching staff has let down the boys varsity basketball team. They were up in three quarters using a one-on-one defense, then a genius decides to change it to a zone and not only that, but change the offensive plays. After realizing it was not working, why wait until 2 minutes left in the game to decide to change back to what was making you win in the first place, at this time the decision to change back was moot. Needless to say, this led to a very embarrassing 4th quarter. Just an analogy, if using your lungs to supply oxygen and your heart to furnish circulation keeps you alive, why would you want to try to change the heart to supply oxygen and the lungs to furnish circulation? Is it just me or is there something about winning that does not sit right with the coaching staff, as this is the 4th game that was lost in the same manner? This was a definite disappointment for the young men on the team because as usual, they play their hearts out both defensively and offensely, but the decisions that are made for them leave a lot to be desired. Wrenn had 7 3's, Newby had 8P, 11R, 3A and 1B along with the other players' contributions to the game

I'm new to this Blog, but looks like it isn't getting much attention from SHS fans. Kudos to DP for the nice article about SHS Varsity Pitcher Kevin Griffy. BOO-Hoos to DP for not giving SHS Softball Girls a bigger headline for beatingPoquoson. The word on this side of the water is that Poquoson, York and Grafton always get the bigger Headlines, DP must have more writers from that area. What do you think?

Yeah SHS JV Soccer Team for great game against Warhill last night. Smithfield 4 - WarHill 0. Both SHS & Warhills Varsity Soccer Teams played well, but in the end, after 2 overtimes, the game ended 0 to 0 GO SMITHFIELD!!

I've been around the blogosphere a lot and I'm coming across this site a lot. Thought I'd give it a try... and anything to do with ‘Google Reader’ is definitely worth it! This is a nice posting.

Friday Night March 15 2013, Great Night for Spring Sports Teams at SHS. Var Baseball, JV & Var Softball, JV & Var Soccer all WON!!
Varsity Baseball took care of business as they beat Jamestown 7 to 2. Which reminds me, what were those BRD Baseball rankings posted in the Daily Press earlier this week? As a friend of ours once said, MR. O'Brien is Smithfield High School's biggest motivater. He keeps pushing SHS Sports down near the bottom and SHS Athletes keep pushing towards the top!
