How to pick a bridesmaid gown she may actually wear again

We’ve all seen the scene in 27 dresses where the girl opens the doors to her stuffed-full closet to reveal a collection of unsightly looking gowns chosen by her friends (a.k.a. bridezilla). Undoubtedly, if you’ve been a bridesmaid, you understand her pain. But if you are a good friend, you buy that gown and smile. Today, brides (knowing they may have the tides turned on them) are
choosing styles that are a bit more pleasing to the eye. And designers are coming out with styles that actually do flatter your figure and yes, may be worn again.

So how do you choose a gown your bridesmaids might enjoy wearing, and could potentially wear again? Well, ask for their honest input to start. And choose a flattering color that is wearable. Let’s face it, bright yellow or hot pink may fit your color scheme, but aren’t likely colors you would wear to another non-wedding event like your holiday office party. Classics like blues, reds or champagnes are much more realistic. Or if you really want to make your maids happy, choose black! Every girl needs a great LBD in her wardrobe. You may also want to choose a more wearable fabric like chiffon. Taffeta is fine, but it screams “bridesmaid!” And consider the shorter lengths. Unless it’s a super formal wedding, knee length gowns make a great choice and your girls are much more likely to have a semi-formal cocktail event to attend in the future than a formal gala. Whatever you choose, make sure it fits your style, but think about those who are wearing it as well. They want you to be happy, but if they are going to shell out a pretty penny for a dress, they would love to find one they could get some use out of!
