Traveling with your wedding gown

With the popularity of destination weddings on the rise, brides flying off to far-away locales for their nuptials are encountering a new dilemma.....How to get their wedding gown to the actual wedding location? Flying guidelines are not really clear, so you should definitely call your airline ahead of time and find out their rules when it comes to carrying on a gown. Some may be able to hang the dress in a coat closet, but don’t bet on it. I was on a plane once with a girl who had a dress on her lap and the attendant made her roll it up and put it in the overhead compartment.

Many brides don’t trust the airline to check the gown for fear it will get lost or stolen, but you can certainly pack it in its own suitcase and hope for the best! Another option includes shipping the gown ahead of time to your destination. Make arrangements with a representative at your hotel to make sure this is agreeable and you can package your gown and ship (insured, of course) with any of the major shipping companies. Allow plenty of time for the gown to arrive safely and be sure to also make arrangements to have the gown steamed or pressed once it arrives. You don’t want
to be a wrinkled bride!
