Shop Offline? Are you serious?

I do pretty much all of my shopping online, with the expection of groceries. Why? A million reasons, really. I think the prices are generally better, lots of online sites don't charge me tax, and the massive assortment of inventory to choose from are just a few. But the biggest reason I love to shop online is a little site called Amazon.com.

To give you an idea of how I get the best deal, check this little scenario out. Months ago I decided to purchase a subwoofer for my Home Theater System. I walked in to the local "Big Box" store and checked out the possibilites. The sub I liked the most in my price range (I'm a working bloke, after all) was the Polk PSW10. The "Big Box" store was selling this model for $199.99. Knowing I could do better, I headed to Amazon where I read the 4.5 star reviews which convinced I had chosen smartly, and added this bassy beast to my "Wish List". At the time, the PSW10 was going for about $149 at Amazon.

A few days later, I took a peak at my Wish List. There was my beautiful subwoofer. There in bold was a notice that said Price Dropped: 50%. I looked at the price, and there it was, my lovely new boomy speaker for $99.99. I added it to my cart, chose free Super Saver Shipping, and checked out in about 2 minutes. Four days later, my new subwoofer was at my door.

Just by "shopping experience" comparison, because I had forgotten a subwoofer cable, I headed to the same local "Big Box" store to pick one up. I was shocked at the prices for a single short cable from brands I had not heard of. I also had to endure the pressure of 2 different unprofessionaly dressed and groomed kids who tried to tell me I "needed" the most expensive cable there. It took me 5 minutes to checkout. I endured all of this because I wanted my cable that moment. So I gave in and paid about $20 for it. I got home, plugged it in and enjoyed a movie in true surround for the first time. I was happy. But something kept eating at me. I headed to Amazon to see if they sold the same cable. They did. And it sold for just $10 with free shipping. Lesson learned. Again.

For some of the best prices anywhere on home theatre stuff you want, check out Amazon.com.
