Despite a short week due to Hurricane Irene's impending arrival, the Bulls traveled to Southampton High School on Thursday August 25th and walked off the field with a 32-15 victory over the Indians.

On Southampton's second play from scrimmage, Austin Turner recovered an Indian fumble on SHS's 35 yard line. On the second play from scrimmage, William Emeny went 36 yards to pay dirt. The PAT was blocked, but less the 2 minutes into the game, the Bulls lead 6-0.

After a long drive by Southampton that resulted in no points, the Islanders went 3 and out as did the Indians. That ended the 1st quarter with PHS up 6-0.

On the ensuing Islander drive, they lost a fumble at midfield. Southampton pounced on the mistake, scoring with just 3:25 left in the half to take their only lead of the evening, 7-6.

The Bulls answered right back, going 90 yards in 9 plays, scoring on Emeny's two yard plunge. Three key plays in that drive were a 32 yard run by Emeny, a 30 yard naked bootleg by QB Chase Pinder and a 15 yard run by Dylan Hill. The 2 pt conversion was no good.

On the kickoff, Brandon Crowley recovered an Indian fumble,  setting the Islanders up for another potential score. However, Pinder's heave into the end zone as time expired was intercepted by Southampton. The Bulls nursed a 12-7 lead going into the break.

The second half opened with some fireworks, with Dylan Hill picking up the kickoff at the 12 yard line and going straight up the middle for an 88 yard Kickoff return for a Touchdown. Michael Roy added the PAT, and just like that, the Bulls were up 19-7.

Four plays in the Indians next drive, Emeny fell on another loose ball, SHS's third turnover of the evening. Five plays later, Emeny dashed 25 yards for another score but the PAT was blocked. Midway thru the 3rd quarter the Bulls lead 25-7.

Southampton then went on a long drive that pretty much ate up the rest of the clock in the third, scoring on a 9 yard run with just 7 seconds left in the quarter. The 2 point conversion was good, bringing the score to 25-15.

The Bulls next drive finished off the scoring for the evening. Nine plays and 53 yards later, Dylan Hill went 10 yards for the score. Roy added the PAT to bring it to 32-15.

Any hope the Indians had of getting back into the game was thwarted by Reece Thornburg's pick with 3:33 left in the game. The Bulls then just ran out the clock from there.

The Islanders are in action next on Friday September 9th at 7 PM at Poquoson Middle School against the Grafton Clippers.
