Bulls post win over Tabb in Varsity football

Tabb game

On Friday October 29th the Islanders traveled to Bailey field to take on the Tabb Tigers.

After a scoreless first quarter, The Bulls failing on their first chance inside the Tabb 5 yard line after a fumble recovery, finally broke the scoreless tie with a 1 yard plunge from Luke Hill after another Tabb fumble set them up deep. They had a chance to score again, but Michael Lutz's 40 yard field goal as time expired sailed wide right. After what many believed would be a blow out by half time, the Islanders clung to a slim 7-0 margin at the break.

In the second half, after both teams punted on thier first possessions, the Bulls scored from the Tabb 34 on a dash to the end zone by Cody Hutchinson. The extra point made it 14-0 Bulls. The Tigers answerd though, driving 55 yards, scoring on a 15 yard run by Andrew Junio to close the gap to 14-7.

From there, the Islanders had their way, dominating both sides of the ball. With 7:59 left in the 4th, Hutchinson broke free for a 55 yard jaunt to pay dirt. Seven plays into the next Tabb drive, Luke Hill scooped up a Tiger fumble and rumbled 40 yards to the end zone, with Tee McConnell delivering a crushing block to spring Hill free.

The Tigers last ditch effort ground to a halt when McConnell intercepted a Tabb pass with under 2 minutes to go.

Defensively, the Bulls were lead by Thomas Garris's 17 tackles. Jay Diggs followed with 13, many of which prevented long gains by the Tigers.

Poquoson's next game is Senior Night, Friday November 5th at home against New Kent. Game time is 7PM.

JV football notches win over Tabb 19-8

On Wednesday October 27th, the PHS JV scored a win over the Tabb Tigers on their home field.

Kevin Karaffa found the end zone first, with a nifty 24 yard run. Michael Roy added the extra point. The Tigers answered with a nice drive of their own, and after a two point conversion, led 8-7.

The score stayed the same until late in the 4th quarter when Richie Cannella hooked up with Grayson Boyce on a 20 yard TD pass. The extra point was missed, leaving the score 13-8 in favor of the Bulls.

With about 4 minutes to play in the game, Tabb took over deep in their own territory. On a 4th and long, the Islanders stuffed the play and took over on the Tabb 21. After a holding penalty set the Bulls back, they tried to kill the clock. On third down and needing a first to ice the game, Bryce Bergner broke away from the Tabb defense and found pay dirt. The final score: Poquoson 19 Tabb 8.

The Islanders travel to New Kent on Wednesday November the 3rd for a tough matchup against the Trojans. Game time is 6:30 PM.
