REDEMPTION!

It's been a long 11 months since that sunny November day when the Bulls and Bruton squared off on Bailey Field with the Region I title on the line. And ever since the 2010 season schedule came out, OCtober 22nd has had a big red circle around it.

That day finally arrived Friday when the Panthers came to town to square off with Poquoson in their homecoming game. The bad taste of outplaying Bruton in every aspect but the final score still let a bitter taste in the mouths of most Bull Islanders. And with first place on the line, a huge crowd at the game that included the Class of 1980 in town to celebrate  their 3oth Reunion, this game was expected to be a close fought, hard battle.

Well from the opening kickoff til time expired, PHS took out that almost one year of frustation on Bruton, pounding them 40-0.

Scoreboard

Poquoson took the opening kickoff and drove right down the field, consuming almost 6 minutes of clock. The drive ended with Luke Hill taking the ball in for a TD from 4 yards out for a 7-0 lead. The offensive line opened holes and blew the Bruton defense off the line of scrimmage all night.

After a 3 and out on Bruton's first drive, it only took Poquoson 2 plays to score. Freshman Austin Turner hauled in Tee McConnell's pass and then fought his way into the end zone for a 13-0 PHS lead.

Yet again the Islander's defense would shut done the Panthers, limiting them to 5 yards of total offense in the first quarter. With 1:30 seconds left in the first, the Bulls took over on their own 19 yard line. What followed was a 15 minute drive down to the Bruton 26 yard line that ate up over half of the second quarter. It would end when the Islander's turned the ball over on downs and would be the only time PHS had the ball in the game where they didn't get any points.

Another three and out by Bruton and Poquoson took over on their 49 yard line. Six plays later, Luke Hill would run the final 23 yards for another Poquoson score, with the 2 pt conversion failing. On Bruton's next possession, they would garner their only first down of the first half,  but time would expire on them. That left the Bulls leading at half time by the score of 19-0, which was more points scored then total yards for the Panthers, who only mustered 17 yards of offense in the first half.

Any thoughts of a second half comeback by BHS would be squealched when Luke Hill picked up a Bruton fumble at the 48 and returned it to the 20 yard line of Bruton. Five plays later, Thomas Garris bulldozed his way into the endzone, and just like that, PHS lead 26-0.

On Bruton's very next offensive play, Hill picked off a tipped pass, giving the Bulls the ball at their own 45 yard line. The 3rd quarter ended with PHS having a 3rd and goal at the Panther 4 yard line. On the first play of the 4th quarter, McConnell found Dylan Hill in the end zone, extending the Bulls lead to 33-0.

Offensively, it was more of the same for Bruton on their next possession. All night long they found no room to run against a Bull's defense that had fire in their eye's and were flying to the ball the entire game. After a Bruton punt, PHS took over with 10:33 seconds on the clock, and after a ten play, 6 minute and 24 second drive, Cody Hutchinson scored from sixteen yard out to cement the win.

All told, the Bulls defense held the Panther's to 48 yards of total offense and three first downs on the evening while pitching their 4th shutout of the year. Offensively, the Bulls rushed for 300 yards and threw for 75 more.

Poquoson's next game is Friday, October 29th at Bailey Field against the Tabb Tigers. Kickoff is 7PM.
