So you want to move to Williamsburg, Va.? Then you should know it like a local. To do that, you must be able to tell people you've been at least these three places. Note that we said at least. That doesn't mean they're the only places you must visit to truly become a Williamsburg resident. But if you plan to move to Williamsburg,Va., these three places are a good place to start to give yourself a feel for your new home.

1. Colonial Williamsburg.

2. Yorktown Victory Center.

3. Jamestown Settlement and Historic Jamestowne.

There's no particular order of importance to the three things. They are just interesting facts about the city of Williamsburg, Va., that we wanted to share today.

1. Williamsburg is considered "the birthplace of America" because of its role in the history of America.

2.  One of the presidential debates between Republican President Gerald Ford and Democratic candidate Jimmy Carter was held at the College of William and Mary in 1976. 

3. Colonial Williamsburg, or CW, which is what the locals call it, has more than 500 18th century buildings, some original and some reconstructed.

 

3 Things We Love about Continuing Education Opportunities in Williamsburg, Va.

The thing about living in Williamsburg is that there's alway something to do. The Christopher Wren Association is one of the very reasons for that statement. The association offers the chance to keep learning, no matter what your age.

1. Interesting classes: The association offers Spring and Fall classes on topics from "American intelligence and security since 9/11" to "The Logic of China's Policies."

2. Free seminars: There's a series called "Town and Gown" that offers Williamsburg residents the chance to hear from college professors on various topics from social justice to Williamsburg history.

3. Volunteer opportunities: You can volunteer to teach and share your own expertise or simply help out in the classrooms while someone else teaches. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Here are five things you should know if plan on retiring to Williamsburg, Va.

1. Williamsburg is in Virginia's First Congressional District.

2. Williamsburg is located in James City County.

3. Williamsburg is an independent city with a five-member city council, a city manager and an elected mayor.

4. Willliamsburg has been home to the College of William and Mary since 1693.

5. Williamsburg is part of an area called the historic triangle, which includes Jamestown and Yorktown.

5 Reasons We Love to Live to Williamsburg, Va.

Marketwatch recently wrote an article about the top 10 worst states for retirees.  The financial company examined everything from taxation, climate and fiscal health to determine which states would make the list.

Virginia was no where to be found. Exactly right, too. There are so many great things about living in the commonweath, which we consider the birthplace of America. The Marketwatch story made us consider another list: 10 Reasons to Live in Williamsburg, Va. Here goes:

1. Colonial Williamsburg. No matter who visits, there's always a cool place to take them.

2. Busch Gardens.  Add grandkids and mix.

3. Great Wolf Lodge. Ditto 1&2.

4. Shopping. When you're done with the first two, try the Williamsburg Prime Outlets. One of the top shopping attractions when you're preparing for the holidays -- and when you're not.

4. Eat, eat, eat! When you're done touring and shopping, everyone has to eat. And Williamsburg has some of the best dining around. From the Fat Canary to the Trellis, there's a Williamsburg restaurant for everyone in this directory.

5. The Virginia Gazette. Yes, yes, we have a bias. We admit it. We embrace it. We love the Gazette.
