"America" (from West Side Story) - New Directions
"One Hand One Heart" (from West Side Story) - Rachel & Blaine
Lines of the Night:
Sebastian: "I don't know who this Blaine guy is, but apparently he's sex on a stick and sings like a dream."
Kurt: "Sure beats the last time you got drunk and made out with Rachel."
Blaine: "Roxy Music makes me want to build a time machine just so I can give Brian Ferry a high five."
Santana: "Speaking from experience, Finn is terrible in bed.... If Rachel wants to have my sloppy seconds, she should know what she's getting into. It was like being smothered by a sweaty out-of-breath sack of potatoes that someone soaked in body spray."
The topic tonight was “the First time”. Rachel and Blaine were Tony and Maria from the musical West Side Story who are having a sexual awakening, but the two of them had never “been with anyone” before. In an instance like most teen movies of the 90’s, they became intrigued with the idea and felt as though it would help their performance if they did it before opening night.
I was looking forward to this Glee episode since I heard what the topic was going to be. I tend to love things that break the mold of society and crack the glass ceiling. As you can see in the preview above, the trailer was all sexed out and titillating to see what happens to these two young couples on glee (ok and that scene where Finn goes to Mr. Schuester – never happened). Honestly I was a little disappointed in the overall excitement of the episode, however it did seem to go by fast so that usually means I’m sucked into an episode – which is a good thing.
Let’s begin with Finn and Rachel – Since Burt is now campaigning against Sue, apparently he isn’t home much. Since Kurt is always hanging out with Blaine; Finn has a lot of time at home alone. Rachel decided that she wanted to come over and take advantage of the “home alone” situation with dinner and romance. They had a lovely dinner and then went to hang out by the fire for a while. They started making out and then Finn started in with the questions. He was saving up for a hotel for them – somewhere nice – like a Marriott. Was Rachel comfortable? Why now? Well after the barrage of questions – Rachel did what she always does… she opened her mouth and told Finn that she “wanted to get it over with before opening night”. Seriously Rachel?! Well that was definitely a mood killer and that was that… for the night.
Rachel ended up performing on opening night without having lost it and then went to Finn’s house after the show while everyone else was at the post party at Arties house. Finn was beside himself because he had a horrible time with the scouts from Ohio State. He thought they were coming to see him, when in actuality they were there to see Mercedes new boyfriend. The recruiter basically told Finn that his football career was going to end in High school, so Finn was freaking out. It was the first time you really saw him lose his cool this season. It brought me back to that feeling in high school where it seems like all your friends have it figured out by you. Totally relatable. Rachel then talked to Finn saying that he has just grown out of his dreams and needs to look for new ones. Then she “gave him something no one else could”. It was very adorable. Didn’t show much – just a little canoodling and then cuddling by the fire with fewer clothes on…. You get the picture; very sweet and adorable – very family friendly.
Blaine and Kurt were a little bit more complicated. Blaine went back to Dalton to check and see how the Warblers were doing without him and walked into rehearsal. There was a new brown haired Blaine double leading the way, and Sebastian. Sebastian is actually played by actor Grant Gustin, who is a Hampton Roads Native. He studied musical theater at The Governor's School for the Arts in Norfolk. OK, back to the show… Sebastian was another openly gay warbler who had eyes for Blaine. He tried to seduce him and suggested that he cheat on Kurt. Of course Blaine, being the stand up guy that he is – declined just as Kurt walked up. Sebastian suggested that they all get fake ID’s and go to the gay bar in Lima.
Oh yay! I got to see what a Glee gay bar was going to be like – pretty entertaining and I must say after going to my fair share of gay bars in college (huge LGBTA supporter); it was a nice combination of different ones I’ve been to. Although it was a bit empty – it did make for a good scene. Sebastian was flirting with Blaine openly and Kurt felt abandoned. Although, Karofsky was there! He has transferred schools and is a regular at the bar now, because he feels accepted. (He is another glee character that is starting to look his REAL age. Sitting next to Kurt at the bar he looked 4-5 years older than him easily). Kurt was the DD as per usual and Blaine decided he wanted to get it on in the back of the car in the parking lot – not romantic in the least. Kurt and Blaine had their first fight and Blaine ended up walking home. Eventually he came to his senses and said how much he loved Kurt and hoped that he would be proud of him. They made out a bit in the auditorium and then Kurt wanted to go back to his house. Again, they did a pan up of the bed, the two of them cuddling and gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes. Totally adorable, and totally Glee.
Other highlights:
Santana is amazing in pretty much any scene – her role in West Side Story KILLED!
Coach Beiste has a love interest.
Tina and Mike lost their virginity to each other over the summer and it was amazing.
Artie finally feels like he’s found his calling although he had no clue what he was doing.
Puck keeps sweeping his mohawk to the side (I guess you have to work with that hair somehow after 3 seasons of the same hair style)
And that’s what you missed on GLEE!
