"You have weird, puffy, pyramid nipples. They look like they're filled with custard. You could dust them with powdered sugar, and they could pass for dessert." – Santana
"The only straight I am is straight up bitch." -- Santana
"And you know what? Even though it's easier to make out with them without getting constantly stabbed in the eye, they're not as hot." -- Puck, re: Jewish girls with nose jobs
Rachel: “You know you shouldn’t be in here”
Puck: “Oh no its cool, I checked the peep hole I made last year to make sure no one was going”
Now that is what I call a TV show. I’m so sorry I didn’t warn you non-regular Glee viewers that it was going to be a 90 minute episode, so that you could make sure your DVR got the whole thing. I’m also sorry that I didn’t blog last week – with Easter and working a bunch it was just a crazy busy week, but never fear – I’m back!
The episode started out with the Glee Club rehearsing for Nationals by getting their choreography down… which apparently was lacking – fooled me. Now we all know that Finn sucks at dancing; as they were rehearsing he backed up, knocked Rachel down and broke her nose (now I may have to go re-watch that scene, but I didn’t see her nose anywhere near him). Finn stayed with Rachel in the waiting room while she was waiting for her dads – who we still haven’t met and I was SO excited that it could be a possibility… not so much.
The Dr. was not the nicest guy and asked Rachel if she was planning to get a nose job. He said it would help with her “deviated septum” which we all know is code for whatever is physically wrong with someone’s nose when they go under the knife. Apparently he bought his teenage daughters one when they turned 16. This got Rachel thinking about her insecurities and how she wanted to be pretty like Quinn. They sang the BEST mash up to date in my opinion. They sang a mash up of “I feel pretty/Unpretty”. Such a good scene! I really have to watch this episode again to truly get it. I love how Glee touches on the subjects that are facing teenagers today and teenage plastic surgery is one of them.
Rachel brings Quinn to her appointment and tells the Dr. that she wants her nose. She then shows the digitally altered pictures to the Glee club and decided she wanted a nose job. Everyone tried to tell her no and talk her out of it, but she said it may help her voice. Mr. Schuester then decided it was time to take a stand for Glee club. While helping Emma deal with her OCD by washing off grapes she said “I was born this way”; which got Mr. Schue thinking about Lady Gaga and how everyone should be accepting of their flaws and love them anyway; and of course do a Lady Gaga song at the end.
It turns out that Zizes wants a chance at prom Queen. She used to do pageants back when she was a little kid, but then she grew up and was told that she wasn’t pageant material and she’s wanted it ever since. Puck decided that he would help her out and be her king. Quinn was still hell bent on being prom queen, taking it to an unhealthy obsession and turning really mean in the process. This is where things get interesting. It turns out that there is a lot to Quinn we didn’t know until now.
Zizes wanted to do a bit of background investigation about Quinn. It turns out that Quinn didn’t always look or act the way she does now. She used to be 70 lbs heavier, have glasses, braces, and got a nose job before 9th grade. Her real name is Lucy, but she goes by her middle name because the kids in her school used to tease her and call her "Lucy Caboosie". The photo that they showed of her was definitely odd. It looks like they used that new iphone application that gives you a double chin to doctor her photo. She was obviously VERY embarrassed by the photos, but it turned out that Zizes put the photos all over the bulletin boards at school. At first I had a knee jerk reaction as to OMG that’s so mean, but at the same time – I wonder if she didn’t do that knowing that people would end up on Quinn’s side because it made her seem more human. I'm still wondering about that Zizes.
Santana was on her GAME tonight. The depth of her character keeps going and I love her witty one offs - she is better at quotes than Brittany is right now. She has been doing more soul searching regarding being a closet lesbian and she noticed Karofsky checking out Sam's butt at the water fountain. She also wanted a shot a being prom queen so she asked him out to dinner and told him that she knew. She also admitted to him that she played for the same team, and they should date each other so no one would suspect that they're both gay. Her mission as prom queen was going to be getting Kurt back in the school so she would become the hero. Her and Karofsky decide to start an anti bullying campaign at school; if they see bullying they stop it. Karofsky and Kurt had a sit down with their parents to talk all this out and Kurt finally found out the whole story. He said that he wouldn't out Karofsky, but at the same time Kurt felt he needed to be educated. One of the stipulations about Kurt coming back to the school was that they were going to start a PFLAG (Parents, Familys, and Friends of Gays and Lesbians) organization at McKinley because people need to be educated. And with that Kurt was back! Should be an interesting development for Kurt and Blaine. We'll see!
Will and Emma were still dealing with her OCD, which she did not want to face. They had a bit of a blow up in the cafeteria and it helped Emma realize that maybe she did need help. She went to the councelor and spend 48 of the 50 minutes disinfecting the chair. She was hesitant about the stigma that was attached to her condition, but in the end it helped her realize that her condition was not who she was meant to be; but it was hurting who she should be. I really liked the way that they "went there" with the therapy session and they talked it out so well. It made it very understandable and people could relate to that.
The final scene was pretty cool. They all made shirts with one or two words describing the thing that they didn't like about themselves, but were trying to love anyway. The ones I remembered were as follows. Mr. Schuester - Butt Chin, Rachel: Nose, Tina: Brown Eyes, Mike: Can't Sing, Brittany: I'm with Stoopid (with an arrow pointing up), Puck: I'm with Stupid (arrow pointing down), Kurt: Likes Boys, Quinn: Lucy Caboosie, Mercedes: No Weave... I liked how some of them played off of jokes regarding the show. Everyone is moving forward on to Nationals and there are only 4 episodes left in the season! And that's what you missed on GLEE!
Bonus: Loser Like Me Video from Regionals - this just makes me smile.
