What you missed on Top Chef this week: It was Jimmy Fallon’s birthday, and Antonia can make a mean beef tongue.
So, this week, Antonia proved herself to me. The Elimination Challenge was for the chefs to prepare Jimmy Fallon’s favorite dishes for his birthday. Fabio got the hamburger, and Carla got chicken pot pie. Antonia? Beef tongue. Now, that sounds like a daunting task for anyone, especially when making it as part of someone’s favorite dish for his birthday! Antonia pretty much blew Jimmy away with her beef tongue and I was really, really impressed. And, after Mike and Fabio picking on her so much at the beginning of the show, I was kind of happy to see her achieve some success.
Looking forward through the rest of the season, I’m a little nervous for Richard right now. He isn’t on his game, and either he is very, very cocky without cause or the editing is just making him seem that way. I don’t want Richard counting his eggs before their hatched, or whatever other cooking term you might be able to use. The ladies are surprising me and really ruining my predictions! Right now, I’m rooting for Antonia and Carla to give Richard and Dale a run for their money.
I was, of course, sad to see Fabio leave. He can’t say burger though…so if I had to hear him refer to something he’s cooking as a “booger” again, I might have barfed.
I’m feeling a little disenchanted with Top Chef right now. I feel that it should be far more competitive season than it has turned out to be. For each challenge at least three chefs are making a dish that is just legitimately bad, which I don’t feel should happen given the highly talented group competing. These chefs really need to turn up the heat or get out of the kitchen.
To sign off, and in honor of Jimmy Fallon and Valentine’s Day, I’d like to present a Top Chef Valentine Poem.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
This has been a great season,
Thanks to all of you!
Angelo, you always keep the other chefs talking.
Carla, I wish you would say, “Hooty hoo!”
Mike, last week, they should have sent you walking.
Antonia, you’ve been the toughest member of the female crew.
Richard, your performance this week did not impress.
Fabio, here’s a sad, sad goodbye to you! L
Tiffany, as front of the house on Restaurant Wars, you were a mess.
Dale, I couldn’t do what you do.
